Tacca leontopetaloides
I don't have my own photos of Tacca leontopetaloides, but you can see the
National Tropical Botanical Garden's web site
for some nice photos.
According to the NTBG web site: Tacca leontopetaloides is naturally distributed from western Africa
through southeast Asia to northern Australia. It was intentionally brought to tropical Pacific Islands
with early human migrations.
My reason for growing and selling this particular Tacca and not the traditional Batflower species
(T. integrifolia and T. chantrieri) is that Tacca leontopetaloides has a leaf that is reminiscent
of an Ammorphophallus. As an added
bonus the petiole is somewhat spiny, which appeals to my love of cacti.
2007 will be my first personal experience with growing this plant. I plan to treat it just like an
Amorphophallus although I may amend my pure coir growing medium with turkey grit and pumice.
I recommend that you give this plant a try!
